Isn’t it 2020? This week is feeling a liiiiiiiiiitle like 2019. If you’re on Facebook you know that the kids are sick. Well 3/4 of them, anyway, have fevers. It started with just Emory on Monday- low grade fever all day and lethargic and no appetite. Tuesday he perked up a bit but then by noon Edda had a pretty good fever at over 102. Then by that evening it hit poor Everett.
This morning- we decided to take a kid to get tested for the flu. Everett woke up sounding horrible so we chose him. He had a bad cough and his poor throat hurt so we offered him some medicine. All we had was Motrin so we gave it to him, hoping to ease his pain.
About 30-40 minutes later or so as Justin was getting him ready to leave- Everett mentioned he was itchy. Justin discovered that his hands and feet were covered with a rash- which appeared to be slowly spreading to his legs. His torso was red also. Good thing they were heading to the doctor. Not long after they got to the doctor’s office Justin texted me a picture of his legs- they were now covered as well.
Turns out that he has hives.
HIVES.
The doc said it’s allergic reaction most likely and they gave him Benadryl.
Freaking hives.
I did read online that rarely hives can happen with the flu- but Everett also had just had Motrin so he may end up allergic to Motrin.
Sigh.
Anyway so they swabbed Everett for strep and flu and the verdict was…
Influenza A.
Yes- 3/4 kids have the flu.
I just have to laugh, because this really sounds more like 2019. See our kids do not get sick often- and they’ve never had the flu. So how freaking FUN is it that the one time we get the flu, it’s while I am going through CHEMO????
Chemo lowers the immune system so this is not ideal timing. But hey- it is what it is.
My oncologist is starting me on Tamiflu as a preventative measure. Fingers crossed I do NOT get the flu. I am masked up and wash my hands about 100 times a day- but there isn’t much else I can do but think positively.
I will not get this flu.
I will not get this flu.
I will not get this flu.
Here are a couple pics from yesterday. The kitties were helping Edda heal.

Until next time….
I hope everyone gets over it fast and that you stay well!! ๐ค๐ผ๐ค๐ผ๐ค๐ผ
Hi! Wishing you the best..I am Melโs mom and just diagnosed with lung cancer. My first Chemo is Wednesday 2/5. It has been a whirlwind..I have my boxing gloves on and ready to take on what comes my way. My sister has been journeying with OV cancer for 6 years and now is on a clinical trial. We are each otherโs cheering section.
Lynn- You are totally going to beat this- good thing you’ve got your boxing gloves on! Chemo may suck but it will go by quicker than you’d expect and then you can move on with life. I have total faith that you’ve GOT THIS! So glad you stopped by. Don’t be a stranger. I’ll be keeping you in my daily thoughts and will check in with Melanie to see how you are doing. WE WILL KICK CANCER’S ASS.
